Burmese Teak (Tectona grandis l.f.)


A large hardwood which is found throughout South-East Asia, from Vietnam to India, though the most commercial grades are found in Myanmar (Burma). Teak is a timber that is increasingly found in plantations due to its value.

General Characteristics
A tough timber that is hard and strong. Usually very resistant to fire, insects and weathering due to the presence of natural oils, which makes it one of the most durable timbers in the world.

Colour / Pattern
Teak heartwood is usually a golden brown with occaisional dark streaks which tend to darken with age and exposure to

light.Teak will oxidize to a rich golden brown on exposure to U.V. light

The timber has a coarse uneven texture with a grain that is usually straight.

Uses
Teak is one of the most highly prized timbers in the world due to its strength and durability. Used for outdoor, decks, furniture and boats construction. It is also used or high end architectural applications and premium quality outdoor furniture.
