A large tree attaining 40 metres in height and 2 metre stem diameter. This species is found in limited distribution in northern Queensland, between Mt. Spec, near Townsville, and Bloomfield. Timber of this species is now of very limited commercial availability as the main areas in which it occurs have received World Heritage listing.
General Characteristics
Hardness is rated as "soft" when related to ease of working with hand tools. |
Colour / Pattern
The heartwood is pale pink to brown in colour. Sapwood almost white. Moderately coarse textured and variable, the sawn timber shows the decorative oak grain to best effect.
Uses
Once used in north Queensland for general house framing and joinery, (particularly windows), it is now confined to joinery applications. |
