A medium sized tree. Sometimes referred to as Black wattle, Blackwood grows throughout the eastern seaboard of Australia, in the mountain districts of Queensland and New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania.
General Characteristics
A very durable wood that is extremely resistant to preservative treatment. Good bending properties, with medium stiffness and high crushing strengths and resistance to impact.
Colour / Pattern
The golden-brown to dark-reddish of the heartwood has

regular chocolate brown zones marking the growth. Mostly straight grained but sometimes with interlocked or wavy grain. Very similar in appearance to and substituted for rare "Hawaiin Koa".
Uses
A highly decorative timber in great demand for high quality furniture, joinery, and boat building. The high degree of figuring results in the timber being often sliced for very fancy veneer.
