The most common species of Zebrawood is found in Africa. They are an exceptional tree of medium to large size, commonly grown in pure strands along riverbanks. Can grow to 30 metres with a stem diameter of 1½ metres.
General Characteristics
A heavy hardwood with coarse texture. The wood itself has a lustrous appearance. It is truly an exotic wood with limited availability, which should only be purchased through certified ecoforestry sources. |
Colour / Pattern
The heartwood is pale golden yellow, distinct from the sapwood which is a very pale colour, and features narrow streaks of dark brown to black of typical so-called zebra stripes, often with interlocking or wavy grain.
Uses
Zebrawood is used in a limited way for veneer, high end custom furniture, and exotic wood floors.
